FAUVIST SELF-PORTRAIT WORKSHOP

Fauvist Self-Portrait Workshop

Inspired by the bold colour and expressive approach of the Fauvist painting movement, participants will create a large-scale self-portrait from a photograph of themselves. Using a simple grid-reference technique, each student will translate their photograph onto a much larger sheet of paper, developing an accurate portrait while learning about proportion and composition.

Once the drawing is established, participants will transform the image using a restricted, Fauvist-inspired colour palette, exploring bold contrasts, simplified shapes and expressive blocks of colour rather than realistic skin tones. The finished work will be a striking large-scale self-portrait, combining observational drawing with the freedom and intensity of Fauvist colour.
